Hi All
The Federation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Western
Australia has decided to make a small change in the
way in which we conduct the childrens divisions.
The main change will be in presenting a number of
trophies to the under age competitiors to encourage
them and to acknowledge their efforts at the
conclusion of the junior divisions. This will be
done in consultation with the coaches and officials
from all the clubs involved.
We will also address the referees and coaches before
the competition starts to remind them to keep an eye
out for possible award winners and also to discuss
the best ways to referee, coach and encourage the
junior competitors in the sport. They truly are the
future of BJJ here in Western Australia.

Hi All
Your Federation has just purchased 3 electronic
scoreboards for use at the State Championships and
other BJJ Federation events in the future.
This will help to raise the tournaments to the next
level and adds to the competition mats and the first
aid kit that the federation has purchased for the
sport in Western Australia.
We will also be hosting the Australia Cup in Perth
in 2010.

Hi All
Just an update to let you know the federations
progress on our to do list
1. The federation has purchased a first aid kit to
be used at all competitions
2. The federation has received approval to conduct
official referee courses for BJJ referees. This will
be a positive step for the sport as the level of
officials needs to improve to match the level of the
competitors. The date of the referees course will be
announced shortly.
3. We are in the process of selecting a supplier for
electronic score boards to be used at the BJJ
competitions

Helio
Gracie, the father of Gracie jiu-jitsu, is dead
at the age of 95. Mr Gracie passed in his sleep
early Thursday in Itaipaiva, Rio de Janeiro,
after he had been admitted to a local hospital a
few days prior for stomach problems.
He passed the way he always wanted to - quick
and fast,' said an immediate relative, who asked
not to be identified. The relative said Gracie's
body would be buried on Thursday.
His impact on the sport of mixed martial arts
was profound. His son, Rorion, was credited with
developing the concept that became the Ultimate
Fighting Championship, and another of his sons,
Royce, won the first two UFC tournaments in 1993
and 1994. Two other sons, Rickson and Royler,
also competed in MMA.
Gracie is survived by his wife Vera; his sons
Rickson, Royler, Rolker, Royce, Relson, Robin
and Rorion; his daughters Rerika and Ricci, as
well as numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, and
grandchildren.

Just arrived for the 2009
competition circuit are 108 of the latest high tech
Zebra Jig Saw mats. The mats are made from hi tech
super absorbent rubber 40 mm thick and meet all the
international standards for competitor safety.
The Federation was able to
purchase these mats for the special price of $
5,000.00 Thanks to our good friends and sponsors at
Zebra who gave us a massive $ 2,500.00 discount.
These mats will increase
competitor safety and further raise the standard of
competition in Western Australian. The next task the
Federation has set itself in Western Australia is to
host an internationally recognized referee seminar,
so that the standard of officiating continues to
evolve with the standard of the competitors.
We will communicate details of
the referee seminar as soon as the details are
finalized.
